Many parents are obsessed with the notion of attachment parenting, but I am not sure if they actually know what it is. Some believe that in means to carry a 3-year old around in a case on their backs. We need to encourage mothering not smothering. Attachment parenting consists of bonding, baby wearing, co-sleeping, and breastfeeding. It creates emotional attunement to children’s needs and ultra responsive parents. It is all good stuff, but I’m going to tell you something that will really shock you. Ready? We can give our small humans only organic food, feed them only mother’s milk, keep them skin-to-skin for two years, or let them sleep with their feet in our face for the first seven years. None of this is the ultimate determinant of raising a stress free balanced child. All these methods and it comes down to this.
The most healthy and balanced children are raised by parents who have a clear understanding of their own history.
You cannot even think about raising another human being until you have raised yourself. If you don’t raise yourself first you make the child a mini version of you. We have got to stop the madness. We have to stop the cycle some where in the genetic chain. Stop being lazy by allowing another generation to repeat the past. Change happens Now and it happens with you! The more you can see yourself the more you can be a happy and good parent who makes space for the spirit of your child to unfold.
